The short answer
A winery under $100K in DTC sales can run a full platform for about $600 to $1,500 a year in software. The rest of the bill is processing, hardware and setup.
Entry plans now start at $0 to $129 a month. What separates a $1,000 year from a $5,000 year is the percentage on sales, the card margin, and the one-time costs nobody puts on the pricing page.

What you pay for
The six lines on a small winery’s bill.
Large-winery comparisons hide the things that matter at your size. Here is every line, with what a winery doing under $200K a year should expect.
1. Subscription
The monthly plan. Most platforms cap their cheapest tier at $100K to $200K in annual sales, so check the cap and what happens the month you cross it. Bottle360 Startup is $49 a month for wineries under $100K and includes every feature.
2. Platform fee on sales
Separate from card processing. Some entry tiers charge nothing, some charge 1.25% to 2% of every order including tax and shipping. At $100K in sales, 2% is $2,000 a year, more than three times the subscription. Bottle360 charges 0.35% of credit card volume only, nothing on cash, check or wholesale.
3. Card processing
Visa, Mastercard and the other networks take their cut on every platform. The question is how much the software company adds on top. Ask for the effective rate on a real statement, and whether you can keep your current processor.
4. Hardware
A one-register tasting room needs a tablet, a card reader that takes chip and tap, and usually a receipt printer. Budget a few hundred dollars for a reader and printer if you already own a tablet, more if you do not. Avoid platforms that require proprietary terminals you cannot reuse.
5. Onboarding and migration
From $0 to about $5,000. eCELLAR publishes $2,000 for setup and $3,000 for data migration. WineDirect publishes $399 on its Starter plan. Commerce7 points you to third-party partners. Bottle360 scopes it with your team and quotes it in writing.
6. Partners and add-ons
Compliance filing, shipping labels, email marketing and accounting each come from a partner. The partner’s own subscription is separate on every platform. What differs is whether the platform also charges you to connect it: some add $50 or more per app per month, Bottle360’s integrations are included.

Commerce7 Lite is the lowest published number under $100K, with limited features and a hard cap: the month you pass $100K you move to Basic at $149 plus 1.5% of gross sales, which is the $200K column. Bottle360 Startup includes every feature and moves to a flat $189 or $239 plan with the same 0.35% on card volume. WineDirect adds $399 onboarding in year one. Card processing, hardware and partner subscriptions are extra on all three.

Six questions for any vendor.
- What is the sales cap on this plan, and what do I pay the month I cross it?
- Is the percentage on sales charged on gross, including tax and shipping, or on net?
- What is the effective card rate on a statement from a winery my size, and can I keep my processor?
- What is the total for onboarding and migration, in writing, and what data transfers?
- Which of the features I need are native, and which are partner apps with their own fee?
- Who answers the phone on a Saturday afternoon during a club pickup?
FAQ
Common questions.
How much does DTC software cost for a small winery?
Published entry plans run from $0 to $249 a month, most often $49 to $150. Add the platform’s fee on sales (0% to 2%), card processing, hardware, and $0 to $5,000 in onboarding. A winery doing $100K a year should budget roughly $3,400 to $15,000 all-in for year one, with the platform fee and onboarding making most of the difference.
What is the most affordable winery software for a startup?
At published rates the lowest entry plans are Bottle360 Startup at $49 a month with all features and 0.35% on card volume, and Commerce7 Lite at $59 with limited features and no transaction fee. Below $100K in sales they are within a few hundred dollars of each other; the gap opens when you outgrow the entry tier, because Bottle360 stays flat while most platforms move to a percentage of sales.
Do I need a percentage-of-sales plan when I am small?
No. A percentage looks harmless at low volume and becomes the biggest line as you grow. At $100K, 2% is $2,000 a year; at $300K it is $6,000. Prefer a flat plan, or at least a plan where the percentage applies to card volume only rather than to every order including tax and shipping.
What hardware does a small tasting room need?
One tablet, one chip-and-tap card reader and a receipt printer cover a single register. Bottle360’s POS runs on any smart device with stationary or mobile EMV readers, so most wineries reuse a tablet they already own. Ask whether the reader is proprietary; if you change platforms later you want to keep it.
Can a small winery avoid onboarding fees?
Sometimes. Fees range from $0 to about $5,000 depending on the platform and how much data moves. Get the scope and price in writing before you commit, and ask exactly what transfers: customers, order history, products, club memberships and stored cards.
